I was born in Nebraska and lived there until moving to Oklahoma when I was 13. I graduated from high school in May 2012 and in June I went off to Maryland to join the Navy at the United States Naval Academy. Growing up we were always outdoors, spending time at the lake, camping, fishing, hiking, bike riding, and so many more activities, it was just a way of life for us. While I was in attendance at the Naval Academy we took part in projects repairing the areas in which Hurricane Sandy had destroyed in locations around Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and New York. I spent a year at the Naval Academy as a student and an athlete, but left because of unforeseen circumstances, so back to Oklahoma for me. I started taking online classes in the fall of 2013 and have been taking classes online since then. I am getting an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and will be graduating right around the time that the internship begins. By taking online classes it allowed plenty of time for me to still enjoy all the outdoor activities that I love like hunting, fishing, bowfishing, kayaking, boating, and anything else to get me outside. I have never worked in a position that was in restoration but it is something that is interesting to me, and what better way to learn about this type of work than hands on experience through an internship. This is my first internship opportunity with SCA and I know that it is going to be a wonderful experience, and there will be so much to learn about the desert restoration, the people that I will be working with, and myself in hard situations. I look forward to working in a different part of the country and working with other people who share similar interests.
