After having spent the better part of the past four years sneaking around the skirts and outskirts of Chicago, bless it’s soul, I found myself in the market for a new adventure, and desirous of a different landscape. So, I said to myself, “Hey, why don’t you go spend nearly a year camping in the harsh conditions of the California desert?” Well, I agreed whole-heartedly! That’s not to say that I don’t love Chicago and the Midwest. I hail from the rural place of Madison, Ohio, where camping and riding horses much defined my youth, and continued my college days studying environmental studies and theater in a Chicago suburb, escaping to the city on every whim. I have recently been working at the Chicago Botanic Garden, teaching science and nature lessons and activities to a cornucopia of imaginative kids. The CBG has treated me very well, but I came to the realization that, just like the kids I was playing in the dirt with, I need to throw myself into a new situation and learn through getting my hands a lil’ dusty-dirty. So with that, I am jazzed as an alley cat to have the opportunity to begin learning, exploring, and restoring with my fellow DRC Jawbone/Rands crew!
