Not sure what to get the nature lover in your life? Do they refuse anything fancy and seem to already have all the gear they need? How do you show your love and appreciation without breaking the bank? Luckily, we have a few ideas to help you find the perfect gift for that outdoorsy loved one. Bonus: each one will support public lands and conservation in their own special way!
Winter Hike
Start by choosing a meaningful winter hike destination for you and your loved ones. Bonus points if you do all the food and logistical planning. They’ll love the quality time together and outside in nature. This can be free if you do it right!
SCA Gear from Arborwear
All the official SCA gear, like water bottles or fleece jackets, can be found at the online Arborwear store. This is for anyone who works hard and plays hard in the great outdoors. You can find gifts under $10 to show your SCA pride, like a long-sleeve shirt or trucker hat. Free shipping on purchases over $10 through December 17, 2018.
Timberland “Give Back Bag”
As you shop at Timberland this season, be sure to pick up the first ever “Give Back Bag.” During November and December, SCA will receive a minimum of $25,000 when customers choose to purchase a reusable shopping bag at Timberland stores. Lace up your boots like SCA crews and help the organization in the process. If you don’t live near a Timberland store, you can always buy a reusable SCA bag for under $5.
Public Lands Pass
Give the outdoor explorer in your life free access to federal, state, or local parks. A good way to go is the America the Beautiful Pass, which works for federal lands such as national parks, refuges, and forests. This pass is free for volunteers, U.S. military members, and 4th graders. State parks and forests often have their own passes that you could consider, as well. Anything to help them take on that next adventure!
Federal Duck Stamp
Have a conservationist on your list? The sale of Federal Duck Stamps has helped protect 6 million acres of wetlands on national wildlife refuges since 1934. There’s no better way to support bird habitat conservation. In fact, 98% your duck stamp purchase goes directly to help acquire and protect wetland habitat. Learn more and purchase your stamp, here.
Trail Supporter Patch
Our friends at the New York Department of Environmental Conservation have a one of a kind Trail Supporter Patch for only $5. All funds go toward outdoor recreation activities on the 3,500 miles of non-motorized trails on New York State lands. Of course, you can also snag an SCA patch for only $1 at our online store.
Passports to Parks and Refuges
Keep track of your adventures through America’s national parks with a Passport To Your National Parks®. There’s a junior version available for any young explorers. Prefer national wildlife refuges? You can often find the Blue Goose Passport at refuge shops, like this. Your state forests and parks might have thier own passports to print or purchase.
