My name is Adam Bryant and I was born and raised in Germantown, MD. I am twenty seven years old and studied English and Philosophy at Salisbury University on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I have lived largely independently for many years and during that time traveled extensively; living in India, Thailand, Montana and most recently, the Big Island of Hawaii. I love agricultural work, hands on work in the different trades (plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.), Hiking, Running, Swimming, Ultimate Frisbee, Hacky Sak and Surfing. I absolutely live to climb coconut trees and open them for unsuspecting passersby. I am working with the A.C.E. group in Northern Mississippi, stationed in Oxford. I have enjoyed the south thus far and the people who reside in this hospitable, open, warm place I now call home. In doing these visitor use surveys I have learned more about myself than I had ever anticipated and feel eternally grateful for this opportunity. After leaving Oxford in September I am headed back to my home in Hawaii to continue on the path I began almost a year ago of self-discovery, fulfillment and ultimately, inner peace. I am hoping to take the knowledge, experience and certifications the SCA has provided, along with the skills and lessons I have learned throughout the course of my life, and use them as a field instructor for a wilderness outreach program for at-risk youth on the Big Island of Hawaii. I had no idea how much I would learn about leadership in such a program and feel it has been an experience of the utmost value thus far. Good luck to all future SCA members, it’s an experience that’ll blow your hair back.
