About the 2013 Wilderness Ranger Corps

•

The SCA and the US Forest Service are working together to inventory Wilderness areas in the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. Our team’s primary job will be finding, mapping and assessing backcountry campsites by hiking and backpacking through both high-use and less frequented places. The information we gather will better allow the Forest Service to observe users’ impact and interaction with the Wilderness. Based in beautiful Darrington WA, the crew will travel from Rainier to the North Cascades looking for sites. When found they are rated by impacted area, ground disturbance, tree damage, fire impact, trash amount and human waste in addition to being photographed and plotted with GPS. We look forward to exploring the incredible terrain while helping our Wilderness areas reach their 50th anniversary goals!
