Repost @rehgan.machold // I can’t believe that my summer internship is already over. If you told me last year that I would spend my entire summer living and working in Yellowstone National Park, I would have never believed you. I got to work closely with some amazing rangers, I was a resource for visitors who had questions, I got to explore the park every single day, I got to research and present my very own interpretive programs, and I grew so much as a person. I spent a couple months before my internship thinking I wasn’t qualified, thinking they must have picked the wrong person. I worried I couldn’t stay so far away from home for so long and I worried that I wasn’t going to be able to give programs like the rangers do every day. I’m by no means an expert presenter, but I’m far better than I was before this internship. This summer taught me a lot about myself. I learned to stop doubting my abilities, I started asking more questions, and happily took criticism in order to improve myself and my work. This summer pushed me so far out of my comfort zone and helped me realize my love for education. I gave programs that focused on wildlife safety, some on history, on geology, or on a broad message of preservation. Sometimes my crowds were as small as 7 people and as large as 75 people. Every day in Yellowstone I learned something new, and the most rewarding part of the job was when visitors would ask questions and engage with the programs. You start to realize your impact then, even if it may be just one person that day, you taught them something new. I will never forget this experience. Thank you @the_sca and @yellowstonenps for this opportunity.
