Seattle, WA: SCA Earth Day at Washington Park Arboretum

Join Student Conservation Association (SCA) and Washington Park Arboretum on Saturday, April 20th to restore Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle, WA!

This Spring, SCA is hosting projects nationwide to honor Earth Day. With national support from American Express and Southwest Airlines, we are aiming to connect our members, alumni, friends, and partners across the country to create a nationwide network of Earth Month celebrations.

In Seattle, volunteers will help remove invasives, weed, and mulch at Washington Park Arboretum.

SCA Alumni Network Event at the NAAEE Conference

What better way to meet colleagues in the environmental education field than to spend your open evening networking over a few drinks? Prior to the NAAEE sponsored Suds Stroll, SCA will be hosting a FREE pre-pub crawl happy hour at O'Doherty's Irish Grille (the first venue on the stroll) for our alumni attending the conference or who live in the Spokane area. Enjoy beer, cocktails, light fare, and great conversation.

Day of Change with SCA & West Monroe

On Friday, June 1st, West Monroe employee volunteers teamed up with SCA at Seattle’s University District P-Patch to help revitalize this much-loved, public space. Over 50 participants gathered together for #WMPDayofChange to clear pathways and garden beds and restore the garden’s composting structure.

National Parks Belong To Us All

I had an unconventional childhood. After my dad took a job that kept him on the road for months at a time, my parents decided we should join him so we could all be together. We bought a motorhome, began to homeschool, and hit the road – stopping at national parks along the way. We saw ancient forests, historic buildings, fascinating museums, national monuments, and dramatic landforms – all national parks. With more than 400 national parks in the United States, it was a competitive process to secure two bilingual interns for Lewis and Clark National Historical Park

Two interns at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park are spearheading various educational and cultural programs that have never been done before at the park.

Nancy Fernandez and Salvador Ornelas, both Hispanic and bilingual, have worked on several community outreach projects, including recruiting children of migrant workers to summer camps and leading bilingual kayak tours and hikes.

The Super Bowl of Conservation

Everyone (that we asked) is in agreement. This year’s superbowl will be decided by which team is more in tune with conservation, nature, and the great outdoors.

Teenagers working on trails

Infusions of grant money and youthful energy are once again helping Mount Rainier National Park shape up this summer.
A grant from the National Park Foundation is helping pay for three teams of teenagers recruited by the Student Conservation Association’s Base to Base Camp program from Seattle and Joint Base Lewis-McCord (JBLM). Each team, consisting of eight high school students and two crew leaders, will spend 15 days working on trail maintenance projects throughout the park.

MLK Service Project at Willow Creek Hatchery, Edmonds, WA

Join SCA and the Audubon Society for a service event at the Willow Creek Hatchery Demonstration Garden in Edmonds, WA, to honor the MLK National Day of Service.
