New York City

Hundreds of New Yorkers joined SCA for a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. this past January 20.

The Student Conservation Association works across the five boroughs of New York City to engage young people in conservation service.

Offering summer opportunities for high school students, internships for college students, leadership positions for graduates, and weekend service events open to all, SCA provides a path for urban youth to learn about the natural environment, engage with their communities, and translate their service experience into professional career opportunities in environmental fields.

SCA has built a dedicated volunteer force to care for New York City’s public lands, and has created a diverse and inclusive community that offers young people from all backgrounds the chance to give back and connect with others who care about urban conservation and resiliency.

News, Stories & Projects

On Tuesday, May 15th, Sony employee volunteers joined SCA to conserve Tompkins Square Park. They met early in the morning to get fueled up for a full day of spreading seed, laying soil, and cleaning up the park. Before getting their hands dirty, the group gathered up for the morning safety talk and stretch. SCA alumni led the stretch with an SCA-classic game of Ninja, where you compete to be the last one standing through “chopping” your opponents’ hands.
