Wilderness Monitoring Intern

The Mount Whitney Ranger Station is located in the small desert town of Lone Pine, CA. Your work will take you into four wilderness areas: the Golden Trout and South Sierra Wildernesses feature forested mountains & broad alpine meadows; the Inyo Mountains Wilderness is a steep and little-visited desert range; the White Mountains Wilderness is incredibly diverse and home to the ancient bristlecone pines.

This position will provide an intern with work experience in several types of wilderness stewardship projects on the Inyo National Forest.The intern will assist Forest Service staff:1. Conduct non-native invasive weed inventories in the South Sierra and Inyo Mountains Wildernesses.     2. Develop wilderness education messages for desert wilderness areas managed by the Forest. 3. Conduct wilderness campsite inventories in the Golden Trout Wilderness.
