Wilderness Information Center - Mountaineering Intern

Located in North Cascades National Park, in the Pacific Northwest, WA. Position is based out of Marblemount, WA, a rural community located just outside the park. Drive time to Seattle is about 2 - 2.5 hours.

You will work as an entry-level wilderness ranger, working alongside experienced park rangers and independently, providing important functions for the operation of the Wilderness Information Center, and increasing the park's field presence in the wilderness. Specifically, you will staff the Wilderness Information Center, issue backcountry permits, conduct informal educational talks to visitors on Leave No Trace, wilderness ethics and wilderness management, and provide other tasks or projects as assigned (60%). You will also conduct wilderness patrols, make educational visitor contacts in the backcountry to encourage Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics, provide some trail and campsite maintenance, assist in wilderness management and possibly assist in Search and Rescue (40%).Housing will be a shared house, 2 people per room, 6 people per house. Includes washer, dryer, full kitchen. No telephone. Located on the ranger compound within walking distance of the ranger station.*Please note, this position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps education award.
