I am from the Philadelphia area and graduated from Brown University as a sociology major. During college, I gained interest in education and taught middle school students for two summers in Philly through a nationwide enrichment program called the Breakthrough Collaborative. This past year, I worked as a full-time tutor at a charter middle school in Boston. My proudest accomplishment there was designing and teaching a music theory and composition elective class that culminated in an original student song and performance. I have always appreciated nature and I am excited to get a much closer look with WildCorps.
My name is Caitlin Bowman. I am from Schenectady, NY and I graduated from Vassar College in 2010 with a degree in biology. I spent the last five months completing an SCA position on the coast of Georgia where I had the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people and animals. Now I’m setting my sights westward and I am very excited to throw myself into a completely new environment. I love hiking, biking, kayaking, musical theater, reading, talking about soccer and sitting in the sun with good company on a brisk fall day. I can’t wait to get out into the desert and meet the rest of the WIldCorps Crew!
Rachelle has spent most of her life living in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. Since her childhood days of climbing trees higher than she will ever divulge to her parents, playing outdoors has made her smile. Her malleable plans to travel the world now include the Mojave Desert as her next destination. Good fortune has allowed her to visit other majestic parts of the western US - Yosemite, Mt Whitney, the Grand Canyon, etc. - and she is thrilled for the opportunity to live in the soft-spoken desert, hopefully glimpsing its covert charms over time. For the past 9 years, she has been enjoying the urban conveniences and green spaces of Pittsburgh, exploring elsewhere when possible. Life before WildCorps has been filled with reading, knitting, cat rearing, bike riding and getting far too excited about eating, especially pizza. Generally, she burps out loud. When she daydreams about the future, her pulse quickens at thoughts of scuba diving, eating pizza in Naples, seeing alpine parrots in New Zealand, and sailing on a boat for months - as soon as she can squeeze it all in!
I was a crew member on the first crew of the modern DRC back in 2003. We worked in the Rand Mountains as well as northeastern California. After that I was distracted by other field jobs: trail in Minnesota, bunnies in Pennsylvania, birds in the San Francisco bay area, weasels in the Sierra Nevada. I returned to the DRC in 2009 to lead the Rands VI and Rands VII. This season will be my first with WildCorps and I’m excited to create WildCorps XI with these four other folks.
