Based in the Regional Office in Atlanta, GA, this internship is project-oriented and will play a vital role on a small team of digital communication and IT professionals working to migrate websites from a format based in Dreamweaver templates to a content management system (CMS) developed by Ektron. Collaborating directly with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) refuge staff, you will collect photos and text for the website while coordinating with the CMS team in the Atlanta Regional Office. Additional duties may include: Developing a SharePoint site for the Division of Visitor Services; Assisting field stations in developing, updating, and managing social media needs; Researching information and using the information to create web content. This position requires:
· Excellent teamwork skills
· Writing skills: an understanding of basic grammar, punctuation, and spelling
· A thorough understanding of the importance of being organized and thorough while developing a website,
o Knowledge of HTML and CSS
o Some graphic design experience
o An understanding of the importance of images on websites vs. text
o Understanding of the framework, structure, and complexities behind a large website with many sub-sites. The back-end of the Ektron system functions similarly to SharePoint 2010
o Comfort using both PCs and Macs
o Comfort doing basic graphic design using software such as Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks
o Knowledge of natural sciences preferred.
In this internship, you will be assigned specific projects and will be expected to work independently.
