You will provide critical bear safety orientation for visitors, (25%); conduct interpretive programs including guided cultural history walks and bus tours to the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, (25%); conduct roving assignments along the Brooks River and at two bear viewing platforms to provide visitor management and to monitor bear activity, (25%); operate a small visitor contact station including information desk, issuing backcountry permits, assisting with cooperating association sales and audiovisual equipment operation, (20%); assist with emergency response functions (EMS, search and rescue, and fire) depending on skill levels, (5%). You will work in close proximity to large numbers of Alaskan brown bears. *Please note: This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
