Visitor Services Intern

You will help to staff two visitor centers (one at 7,000 feet and the other at 9,750 feet elevation), and contact stations in between. This will involve doing informal interpretation, scientific demonstrations, providing orientation and information to park visitors, selling various promotional materials, issuing back-country permits, plus answering phone and mail inquiries (50%). You will also assist by researching and preparing background materials for informal interpretation, demonstrations and short guided hikes. These will deal with the natural and cultural history of the park. You'll also assist in presenting environmental education programs (25%). Plus, you will be involved with various special projects related to interpretation - such as working in the library, developing handouts, brochures or bulletin board materials, artwork, and resource management assignments (25%). This position is funded through the National Park Service Youth Program Initiative; therefore, applicants must be between 18 and 25 years of age.This Internship is Not Eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award
