Pocosin Lakes NWR was established to provide habitat for migratory waterfowl and other birds, to protect and enhance a unique type of wetlands called pocosin, to protect and enhance habitat for those species which are classified as endangered, threatened, or of special concern, and to provide opportunities for wildlife-oriented interpretation, outdoor recreation and environmental education.
The Visitor Services Intern will provide the public with safe, accessible and quality wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities (e.g. hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education and interpretation). The intern will develop and present a variety of environmental education programs including orientation talks, conducted walks and demonstrations to a variety of public audiences. The intern will also assist with the development or revision of educational materials such as brochures, guidebooks, handouts and exhibits. The intern will assist with other environmental education, teacher training, and volunteer program duties as needed.
