Located just two and a half hours southeast of Seattle, Mount Rainier's glacier-covered volcanic cone is the icon of the Pacific Northwest. Nearly two million people come to enjoy the grandeur and wild beauty of the park each year. About 300 miles of trails encircle the mountain, including the 93-mile Wonderland Trail.
You will coordinate, train, and lead citizen volunteers to assist with trail maintenance and construction in front and backcountry locations. Work schedule may vary to include weekends and holidays in order to match the availability of volunteer groups. Volunteer group sizes typically range from 1-30 people with an age range of 15 years to adult. Work is repetitive and is performed in an elevation range of 1,800'-8,000' on arduous terrain in inclement weather. Duties with volunteers could include: opening trails (cleaning water drains, removing timber, shoveling debris from trail corridor), maintaining trails (vegetation removal, brush clearing, tread work), and construction/repair (bridges, turnpikes, footlogs). The priority is coordinating and safely training, leading, and working alongside volunteers to foster a meaningful connection to the Park and its legacy.
