Trails Monitoring Intern

Mammoth Cave National Park, western Kentucky.

Participants will conduct environmental monitoring along 40 miles of backcountry trails using established protocols to measure  parameters such as trail tread depth, erosion, vegetative cover,human-caused impacts, etc. Collected data will allow park management to establish best management practices in regards to the heavily used trail system. Participants will also conduct biological assessments of water-quality of trailside streams to asses biological impacts of trail  erosion . EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Opportunities to hike/bike/ride over 90 miles of trails, canoe/kayak the Green and Nolin Rivers, fish, and camp in both the front- and backcountry environments. Many recreation opportunities exist in Louisville and Nashville to include professional and semi-professional sport team, museums, and recreational areas.
