Trail Intern

This position will be housed inside the Park, near the town of Grand Lake, CO.

Assist with maintenance of park trails, including clearing downed trees off trails, limbing, brushing trails and cleaning drainage structures; assist with reconstruction of park trails, including building rock and log waterbars/checkdams and rebuilding footlogs and horse bridge and other trail structures; assist with Search and Rescue operations, other park operations and projects (possible). This physically demanding work includes hiking up to 10 miles in a day. You may stay in backcountry camps and assist animal packers with pack animals and work with volunteers. It is desired that applicants have some knowledge in trail work and maintenance, the ability to live and work in close crew contact including in a backcountry camp setting and the willingness to be a team player working with a 4-8 person trail crew. Out of the field housing will be either a shared bedroom in a bunkhouse or a shared apartment/house. Although not required, it is suggested you have access to a personal vehicle. Lack of transportation will not be a severe problem for personal travel, but a vehicle will greatly increase participant’s enjoyment of the area. Intern reimbursement generally does not exceed the budgeted amount.
