SCA will not be running youth programming in Manchester during the 2015/2016 school year or the summer of 2016.
The Manchester Conservation Leadership Corps has been inspiring inner-city youth in the Manchester, New Hampshire, area since 2008. The program is based out of Bear Brook State Park and is part of one of SCA’s hallmark programs for young adults: the NH Corps. The mission of Manchester CLC is to lead and inspire diverse inner-city high school students to become engaged in conservation, environmental education, and year-round service to their community.
The Manchester Community Program engages Manchester area high school students in year-round conservation service learning projects. During the school year, there are weekly meetings and Saturday service learning projects. The weekly meetings consist of fun games and activities, conservation-themed guest speakers, and preparation for projects. Examples of the Saturday service learning projects include working on an organic farm, organizing an Earth Day Event, participating in park cleanups, and completing trail work. During the summer high school members have the opportunity to be on a 2-week conservation field crew hitch on public lands throughout New Hampshire. Upon completion of a hitch, students receive a stipend.
