In this internship you will access the backcountry by foot, or canoe to perform all aspects of trail work to help protect natural resources. This will require camping overnight in the areas assigned at various times throughout the season.

Backcountry Steward - Essex Chain Lakes Primitive Area

Patrol and maintain campsites on backcountry lakes and ponds via canoe. Weeks will consist of remote outdoor work, and the ideal candidate will be self-directed, independent, and comfortable with solo use of a canoe.

Spend a season in a National Park! The first 6 weeks of this position will focus on macroinvertebrate monitoring. The next 5 weeks will involve peregrine falcon restoration and the remaining week will involve forest pest suppression.

Primary duties are monitoring plant populations in response to patch burn grazing. Plant identification and data management will consume the majority of time during this position.

In this internship you will access the backcountry by foot or canoe along the fragile dune system on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. Duties include: educating the public on the importance of the dune system and protection of the natural resources.

Interpretation Intern

Starts February 22, 2015 • Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park, Stonewall, TX

Interpretive guide to lead tours of “Texas White House” at Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. Interns will live and work on the historic working cattle ranch that served as President and Mrs. Johnson’s refuge, showplace, and homeplace.

Biological Science Intern -- Invasives Species Control (Short Term)

Starts May 17, 2015 • Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge, Pleasanton, KS

Primary duty is to identify & control invasive & noxious vegetation with standard equipment and herbicide, but also conduct biological surveys & monitoring of flora & fauna; collect & organize field data, assist with prescribed burn, & more!

Aquatic Ecology Intern

Starts June 1, 2015 • Cape Cod National Seashore, North Truro, MA

Your responsibilities will include: using non-motorized watercraft (canoe/kayak) to sample water quality in kettle ponds, (50%); assisting with other aquatic resource monitoring projects, (30%); providing laboratory analysis.
