The California Wilderness Coalition (CWC) is seeking a motivated, organized individual with a love for the outdoors willing to spend 16 weeks surveying 16 of the wildest remaining places in northwestern California. The work entails using notes, photographs and other means of documenting human-caused impacts to and the ecological and social values of wild places on our national forest lands in California’s Trinity, Humboldt, Del Norte and Mendocino counties. The job also involves training and coordinating volunteers to assist with the surveys. The ideal candidate would be a self-starter with keen attention to detail and good communication skills. He or she should be comfortable spending extended periods of time in the outdoors, often alone, engaged in minimal-impact backcountry camping and hiking. Candidates with access to a high-clearance vehicle are preferred.  Field meals and mileage reimbursement will be paid by CWC.
All training and equipment will be provided. No surveying experience is necessary.
  • Northern California, national forest lands in Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, and Mendocino Counties. Numerous wild and scenic rivers and wilderness areas, state parks, redwood forests, etc.
  • H,back packing, hiking, camping, beach combing.
