Join a team of dedicated rangers working to help visitors appreciate, understand, and appropriately enjoy this stunning red rock desert. You’ll expand your personal knowledge and skills, by learning about the park in the meantime, while sharing this information with visitors. In this position, you will provide orientation and safety information at the visitor center (40%), collect entrance fees (25%), develop formal and informal interpretive programs such as a campfire program (15%) and rove/hike park trails (20%).

This Internship is Not Eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
  • Canyonlands National Park-Needles District is stunning, quiet and remote. The town of Monticello (55 miles) provides gas and groceries, while major services are available in Moab, Utah (75 miles), or Cortez, Colorado (100 miles).
  • Training on the natural and cultural history of the area as well as opportunities for overnight trips into the backcounty.
  • Recreational activities abound. Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, Natural Bridges National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley and numerous state parks are all within a 1-2 hour drive.
