Under the guidance of a media specialist the intern will research key topics of Bering Land Bridge National Preserve.  The intern will gather and organize photographs, video, and write content that will be used to create two interactive Bering Land Bridge apps based on these topics.  The intern will also research cultural and natural resources of Bering land Bridge to create and publish content for the park website.  Strong written skills, organizational skills, and media manipulations skills are required.  
  • This position will be working in the park headquarters and visitor center in Nome, AK. Nome, Alaska, is a rural community of about 3,600 people in northwest Alaska. Transportation to and from Nome is via commercial airlines only. There are no roads from any major city to Nome; however, there is a 260 mile gravel road system around Nome, which is accessible by vehicle during the summer months. Services including a regional hospital with dental and eye care, a private physician and dental office, grocery stores, and community college are available. Other community amenities include a small city museum, public library, recreation center, movie theater and an indoor swimming pool. There are also many churches and community groups in Nome. Summers (May to September) are relatively mild (50’s to low 70’s) with long periods of daylight (up to 22 hours). Winters (October to April) have temperatures that stay around 0 degrees with some periods of -20 to -30 and daylight drops to 4 hours.
  • Training in professional standards for park media, including accessibility, will be provided through one-on-one training and online courses. Bear Safety training will also be provided
  • University of Alaska Fairbanks has a campus in Nome and provides community classes for a fee. There is a community recreation center that has equipment, a rock wall, basketball court, and fitness classes. There is also a movie theater.
