The Intern will work primarily at Burnsville Lake’s Bulltown Historic Area, assisting the full-time Interpretive Park Ranger with operation of the area.  The historic area includes a Visitor Center, historic structures dating back to the mid-to late 1800’s, a Civil War Battlefield, and the turn-of-the-century Cunningham Farmstead.  The Battle of Bulltown occurred on October 13, 1863.  The intern will staff the information desk, greet visitors, be knowledgeable of and answer questions about the area, displays and history of the Bulltown site; distribute maps, brochures and literature on points of interest; and provide a professional atmosphere for the center.  The intern will also provide scheduled tours of the historic area for visitors and school groups and may conduct demonstrations depicting farming during this era, military history, and other historic topics.  The intern may also present programs and conduct activities that focus on the lake project, area or regional points of interest, water safety, natural history, local or regional history (e.g. Native American, Appalachian, Civil War), and turn-of-the-century life (including music, arts, and crafts in a historical context).  Methods may include demonstrations, talks, and other interpretive techniques.  The intern may also schedule folk music, square dances, team and individual games, and other recreational events and appropriate activities.  The intern will also work with recruitment and scheduling volunteers to assist with operation of the area.
