River Management Intern

The location of this assignment will be based at the Glennallen Field office in Glennallen, Alaska. Glennallen, Alaska is a small, rural community located approximately 180 miles east of Anchorage, Alaska on the Glenn Highway. The BLM Field Office manages approximately 7.2 million acres of land, ranging from the Alaska Range south to the Gulf of Alaska, and from the Talkeetna Mountains east to Wrangell St. Elias National Park.

You will assist the recreation staff with the river management programs for the Gulkana and Delta National Wild and Scenic Rivers. Responsibilities include: Patrolling both rivers using rafts and/or canoes to monitor visitor use and maintain campsites and facilities that are located within the river corridors and at launch sites (60%), provide visitor contact information (rules, regulations, Leave No Trace) information to the public while floating the rivers and at boat launches and river ranger portal facility (20%), perform trail maintenance and trail construction activities to river portages (10%). You will also prepare reports and enter data related to visitor use and river management program objectives (10%).Housing will be a co-ed trailer with laundry facilities.
