In order to protect, rehabilitate, enhance and maintain the Base Urban Greenway system, tree farm, and other related areas, you will spend time surveying flora and fauna, natural resources patterns, and working on needs surveys with Greenway users. You will identify, demarcate and remove exotic/invasive flora and fauna, geo-reference and radio-track various flora and fauna (such as the Oklahoma penstemon and the Texas horned lizard). You will be implementing erosion control practices; restoring eroded pond shorelines with native plant materials, collecting and transplanting plant seeds and vegetative plugs for marsh establishment projects. You will also be collecting seeds and vegetative cuttings of native plants for propagation, installing snags for wildlife habitat, planting native grasses, forbs, trees and shrubs, plus pruning branches and roots. In addition, you will irrigate and maintain irrigation systems, mulch, stake and guy, perform other related urban forestry tree care activities. Your responsibilities will also include painting, picking up trash, mowing and trimming, installing, plus repairing and maintaining fencing and signage, trails, boardwalk, fishing docks and wildlife blinds. You will also prepare sites for activities such as National Trails Day, and perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: You will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience and knowledge in urban natural park management and design.
