The Big Cypress National Preserve was created in 1974 to protect the water quality, natural resources, and ecological integrity of the Big Cypress Swamp. The freshwaters of the Big Cypress Swamp, essential to the health of the neighboring Everglades, support the rich marine estuaries along Florida's southwest coast. Protecting over 750,000 acres of this vast swamp, Big Cypress National Preserve contains a mixture of tropical and temperate plant communities that are home to a diversity of wildlife, including the elusive Florida panther. Big Cypress National Preserve was one of the first national preserves within the National Park Service. As a Preserve, Big Cypress manages for a broader range of recreational activities, including hunting and Off-road Vehicle access.
This position would assist the Facility Maintenance Division with asset manangement operations. The incumbent would be responsible for field collection of asset inventory data throughout the Preserve, performing a site survey for each asset location. This data would then be entered into our Facility Management Software System. The intern would also assist in field inspection of all assets.Additionally, the incumbent would assist in project record keeping for a Line Item Construction funded project. This project consists of the stabilization of back-country off road vehicle trails, and the construction of recreational access points. The intern would enter project costs for labor, equipment and materials in the FMSS.Strong computer skills are essential and required. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems as well as MS Word and Excel programs is necessary.Intern must possess a valid driver's license.
