Seeds of Success

In partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, teams collect seeds for seed banking and restoration efforts. Most of the seeds collected are shipped to the Millennium Seed Bank at the Kew Botanical Garden in the UK as part of an effort to collect 10% of all species in the world. The effort in the US, managed by the BLM, concentrates on dry-land species. Other seeds are kept either locally or in regional seed banks for current or future restoration efforts. Species are collected based on a standard protocol and are often accompanied by a species voucher specimen and location data for accurate identification.

Invasive Species

In partnership with the National Park Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service, teams work at eradication and prevention of invasive plant species utilizing hand-pulling, mechanical removal, and/or chemical application techniques. Teams also conduct educational activities for local schools, organizations and events focused on the prevention and control of invasive species.
