Utah's remote Hovenweep National Monument features outstanding archaeological resources, canyon trails and a vast sage-covered plateau.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:To staff the visitor center, (45%); perform hiking rimtop and canyon trail patrols as well as driving patrols, (30%); provide both impromptu and planned interpretive talks and presentations, (15%); perform maintenance work as necessary, (5%); assist with resource management projects, (5%). This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award. EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Hovenweep National Monument is located within two hours drive of three National Parks (Canyonlands, Arches, Mesa Verde), two National Monuments (Natural Bridges and Canyons of the Ancients)and one Navajo Tribal Park (Monument Valley). Also nearby are three mountain ranges, four wild and scenic rivers, and numerous National Forest and BLM wilderness and primitive areas. Hiking, skiing, and biking (road and mountain)opportunities abound.
