If you're not sure if you would prefer the desert or the mountains, this is your chance to experience both. Located 110 miles east of El Paso, in west Texas, Guadalupe Mountains National Park's rugged mountains rise from the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert and contain portions of the world's most extensive Permian fossil limestone reef. Containing the largest federally designated wilderness in Texas, the second largest gypsum dune field in the United States, seven of the ten highest peaks in Texas, including 8,749 foot Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas and over 80 miles of hiking trails, Guadalupe Mountains National Park is truly an outdoor wonderland.
Assist with planning, executing and evaluating special events relating to the park's 40th anniversary and Peak Fitness Challenge. Plan, write and develop promotional materials, including brochures, rack cards, a website, social media such as Twitter and Facebook, to promote the 40th anniversary, the Peak Fitness Challenge and specific 40th anniversary events. Accompany staff and/or partners to community outreach activities and events in West Texas and Southern New Mexico to promote 40th anniversary and Peak Fitness Challenge activities for the purpose of encouraging increased visitation, camping and hiking in the park.
