Giveaway to Coincide with 2012 Nike US Open of Surfing, July 28-August 5
(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) July 23, 2012 --- Seventeen-year-old pro surfer Lakey Peterson will soon welcome 750,000 people to her home state of California for the US Open of Surfing. And soon thereafter, she’ll welcome two lucky fans to her own hometown to support the stewardship and sustainability efforts of the Student Conservation Association (SCA).
Lakey and SCA, partners for the past two years, today announced the Lakey-SCA “Room & ‘Board’ Contest.” The grand prize is a weekend for two in Santa Barbara, including round trip airfare, surfing lessons from Lakey, and an autographed Channel Islands surfboard. The grand goal, says Lakey, is to highlight the impact of young SCA volunteers who protect national parks, seashores, and urban communities across America.
“I’ve worked with SCA volunteers restoring parklands. It’s fun, rewarding, and makes a real difference,” says Lakey. “Protecting our planet is so important. Everyone needs to get on board and for those my age, the best place to start is with SCA.”
When not competing, Lakey will help SCA volunteers rid Huntington Beach of thousands of pounds of litter over the week-long surfing, music, and lifestyle event.
