The 2012 Baltimore Conservation Leadership Corps (BCLC) program will provide 30 local youths with an opportunity to earn money during the summer while making a difference in their community and the environment.
The summer of 2012 marks the 6th year the BCLC will be working to create the next generation of conservation leaders in Baltimore, MD. The BCLC is a partnership between the Student Conservation Association (SCA) and Civic Works. 30 Baltimore City high school youths will be engaged in a 6 week employment program focused on public land conservation and urban farming. The BCLC summer program will provide these participants valuable life skills, conservation skills, conservation ethics, and job preparation techniques. The program will run from July 2nd to August 10th, Monday through Friday. Monday through Thursday, crews will work in the field at various local parks on conservation projects and on Fridays the crews will be exposed to various environmental education activities. This year, the crews will be working at Leakin Park, Robert E. Lee Park, Herring Run Park, The Real Food Farm and Mothers’ Garden at Clifton Park.
