SCA Emergency line: 1-800-YO-SOGGY (1-800-967-6449)
As you likely know, Hurricane Irene - a large and potentially destructive storm - is heading toward the eastern U.S. seaboard and is forecast to make landfall in the Carolinas by Saturday morning. Irene's impact, however, is expected to stretch from Florida to New England between now and next Monday.
As SCA cares first and foremost for your safety, please monitor this situation over the next several days and follow your site's and/or agency partner's safety directions including possible relocation or evacuation orders. We advise you to contact your family and gather provisions in advance of the hurricane as you may be isolated without resources (i.e.: food, water, electricity, etc.) or communications (telephones, cell service, internet) for a period of time. TO OUR MEMBERS IN NORTH CAROLINA AND PUERTO RICO: please email an update on your status as soon as possible including your current condition, location, and potential for relocation. It is important that we hear from you in order to assess your situation and the need for any special support. Send your status update to SCAInternshipProgram@thesca.org
TO SCA MEMBERS ELSEWHERE ALONG THE EAST COAST: at this time we are NOT asking you to email us with your status. We do, however, strongly recommend that you monitor the progress of Hurricane Irene and follow the safety steps outlined above should they become necessary.
As always, the SCA Incident Response Line is available to you 24/7 in the case of an emergency. Call 1.800.YO.SOGGY (1.800.967.6449) to speak with an SCA Duty Officer.
We are not trying to alarm you; rather, we are alerting you that hurricanes are powerful forces of nature. Please be vigilant and, if you are in North Carolina or Puerto Rico, be sure to send us a status update as soon as possible.
