POSITION: LEGISLATIVE FELLOW
SEASONAL CONTRACTUAL/ NO BENEFITS
LOCATION: Department of Natural Resources – Legislative Office
Annapolis, Maryland (Anne Arundel County)
HOURLY RATE: $13.48 per hour (Grade 10)
CLOSING DATE: November 5, 2010
CONTRACT PERIOD: January 12, 2011 – April 11, 2011 plus 2 training days in December 2010
POSITION DUTIES: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is seeking a current law or graduate student, or a recent college graduate to serve as the Department’s Legislative Fellow for the 2011 session of the Maryland General Assembly. The Legislative Fellow will assist the Department’s Legislative Office by: conducting legal and legislative research; editing correspondence, bill position statements and testimony; tracking legislation; monitoring committee hearings and caucus briefings; maintaining legislative files; and completing administrative duties as needed.
The Legislative Fellow must be available to work in Annapolis approximately 20 hours a week from January 12, 2011 through April 13, 2011, as well as one or two days in December for training. Since the Legislature does not take any holidays during the 90 day session, the candidate selected must commit to a weekly work schedule and take no holidays or spring break.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or a current law student or graduate student.
Experience: No experience required.
PREFERENCE: Will be given to applicants with strong writing skills, some environmental science or policy experience.
