Planned Giving

All planned gifts and legacy commitments are important to the future of SCA.  They build SCA’s endowment, providing perpetual support for our programs.  They help instill a conservation ethic in each succeeding generation of volunteers.  They help to protect valued national parks, forests and urban areas.

Most importantly, they reflect the deep and enduring commitment of friends whose spirit continuously inspires our work.

Life Income Gifts

SCA offers a variety of ways that donors can make contributions now that provide them with a secure and reliable income stream for the rest of their lives or for a specific period of years, as well as a charitable income tax deduction for a portion of the commitment in the year the gift is made.

The most popular of these tools is a charitable gift annuity, a simple contract with SCA that provides a predictable payment based on the age of donor beneficiaries.  Rates are determined by the American Council on Gift Annuities and range from 5.7% (at age 65) to 10.5% (at age 90).  Two-life and deferred gift annuities are also available.

Bequests

If you have established a legacy gift for SCA, please let us know so that we can welcome you into the Legacy Society. This will give us an opportunity to thank you appropriately for such a meaningful commitment and to recognize your gift in our Annual Report.

All legacies are important to the future of SCA.

There are many ways to remember SCA in your will.  For example, you can leave a specific dollar amount to SCA, or you can leave a particular asset in your estate.  This can be a security, a piece of real estate, or a “collectible” such as a work of art.  Another possibility is to name SCA a beneficiary of a percentage of your estate, or of the residual value of your estate after specific bequests are made and taxes and expenses paid.

No matter which method you use, the full value of your bequest to SCA will be deductible for estate tax purposes.  This will reduce the size of your taxable estate.  Your bequest can save substantial estate taxes, since amounts passing to heirs in excess of $2 million are taxed at a steep rate of 45%.

While bequests of all sizes are both welcomed and needed, SCA requests that bequest commitments less than $25,000 be made as unrestricted bequests intended for the general purposes of SCA and one that the Board of Directors is free to use as it deems best. >/p>
