Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program Print

Are you between the ages of 14-18 and need a summer job?  Do you live in the Pittsburgh area?  Are looking to be outdoors?

The SCA is managing a summer employment program for students for the City of Pittsburgh.  Youth will work outdoors on a crew to perform trail maintenance and site restoration in local city parks and communities.  Students will spend time working on conservation projects, recreating and participating in environmental and educational activities.  If interested, click here for an application (pdf). 

 
Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the Park festival collaboration with Venture Outdoors Print

January 21st, Schenley Park Ice Rink 1pm – 4pm   40 volunteers from SCA, Venture Outdoors will bring together youth from across Pittsburgh to celebrate differences and explore commonalities. Pittsburgh's Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC), is seeking new members who are interested in adventure, meeting new people, having fun, and learning about conservation in the Pittsburgh community.

 
City Charter High School News Print

The SCA has teamed up with City Charter High School to complement City High's "Science and Sustainability" curriculum. The program, led by a full-time SCA Americorps volunteer and a 10th grade science teacher at City High, provides high school students with a unique opportunity to truly understand their local environment by combining in-class lessons with out-of-class experience. Together the SCA and City Charter High coordinate dynamic activities such as service projects and field trips in the immediate Pittsburgh community that are relevant to the students' learning.

Earth Day - By the Numbers Print

On April 22nd 2006, over 80 SCA Volunteers converged on Frick Park to complete a service project in partnership with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. The event was sponsored by American Eagle Outfitters and the NiSource Environmental Challenge Fund.Home Depot, Whole Foods, The East End Food Coop, Einstein Brothers’ Bagels, Giant Eagle, Target, and REI, Inc. supported the project with donations and volunteers.
