What types of SCA services can I choose from?
SCA provides three main progam models to meet your needs. Conservation Crews, comprised of 6-8 high school students and two trained adult crew leaders, provide month-long, labor-intensive conservation projects in frontcountry and backcountry sites across the US, typically providing trail construction and ecological restoration. Crews last 21-35 days with 14-24 full work days. Conservation Interns are college undergraduates, grad students or adult learners recruited to meet your needs in any conservation discipline, from 3 to 12 months. Conservation Corps are specialized teams of SCA interns serving under an SCA Leader, assigned to a common task—usually large-scale, land-based initiatives. Corps assignments last 3-12 months.
How much will a Conservation Intern or Crew cost?
SCA provides Interns, Corps and Crews to our partners on a cost-share basis. The cost-share is determined by a variety of factors including travel costs, length of service and housing availability. SCA invoices partners based on actual costs. Click here to view estimates of your cost-share for an Intern or Crew.
I do not know my budget at this time, should I still submit an Intern or Crew Request Form?
Absolutely. The submission of a Request Form at this time does not constitute a financial obligation or contract but rather serves as an expression of intent enabling SCA to initiate its recruiting process. You may cancel or add to the requested position(s) later if your budget or other factors change. The longer lead time we have in the recruiting process, the better the candidates we will find for your position.
What is the deadline for submitting a Request Form?
For Crews the deadline is March 1st. For Interns, to maximize recruiting efforts and ensure your position is included in one of SCA's two hard-copy Internship Listings, it is best to submit Request Forms for Winter/Spring positions by June 1, and Summer/Fall positions by November 1, of the preceding year. These are not deadlines but simply recommended dates that allow SCA to fully publicize your positions and plan our recruiting activities. Intern Request Forms can be submitted at any time throughout the year understanding that it typically takes 12 weeks to place an Intern from the time of the Request Form submission.
Can SCA recruit Interns or Crew Members from my local area?
SCA recruits nationally for all of our positions. We find it very challenging to recruit “local” applicants for positions "in their backyard" because part of the experience an Intern or Crew Member seeks is to work in an area outside of their home state or residence.
I already have an Intern candidate in mind for my position. Can I sign them up through SCA’s Conservation Intern program?
Yes. We often do this with our partners. The candidate should be instructed to complete and submit an SCA Internship application to us. Once you have submitted your Intern Request Form, you should immediately contact SCA to inform us that you have a self-selected applicant for your position.
I do not have housing available for my Intern(s). What are my options?
Should on-site housing not be available, SCA can assist you in identifying alternative housing options most likely in the open market. Once housing is secured, SCA will manage Intern rental payments and bill you for the actual housing costs (including utilities, etc.) plus a nominal administrative fee.
I have reviewed your sample Internship positions and do not see the type of position I need. Do you provide Interns for other type of positions?
We often place Interns in unique positions such as serving as volunteer coordinators, writing/research of management plans, creating databases, developing interactive computer programs for visitor centers, and many other tasks. In short, should you have a need; SCA can probably find an Intern to assist you.
Are SCA Internship’s strictly limited to 3, 6, 9, and 12 months in duration?
No. Although these durations are the most popular, SCA Interns can serve any number of weeks or months. Three months (12 weeks) is the minimum however, and 12 months (52 weeks) the maximum.

My Agency/Organization is not yet a partner with SCA. Can I receive a sample cooperative agreement and cost-share breakdown?
