The Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands sits on a high mesa surrounded by the deep red rock canyons of the Green and Colorado Rivers and offers spectacular views one hundred miles wide. Much of the park is wilderness providing unique possibilities to explore this untouched landscape. Thirty-five miles away is the town of Moab with shops, restaurants, and a wide variety of recreation opportunities. The nearby La Sal Mountains are a cool forest retreat and fifteen other National Park sites within a day’s drive make for amazing weekend getaways.

Your responsibilities will include: staffing Visitor Center desk, providing orientation, answering questions, helping visitors plan backcountry trips, and assisting in the sale of bookstore merchandise, (35%); collecting fees at an entrance station and for backcountry permits in the Visitor Center, (30%); presenting interpretive programs which may include geology talks, patio talks and guided walks, (10%); researching and preparing programs and/or roving scenic overlooks and park trails, (10%); assisting park staff with various projects, (5%); training, (10%).This Internship is Not Eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
