Trail Use Surveyor with MCC (SE MN) - 2008/04/01 15:23
Minnesota Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Position: Trail Use Surveyor Location: Southeastern, MN (travel required) Term of Service: May 19, 2008 - September 4, 2008
The Minnesota Conservation Corps (MCC), a non-profit environmental organization, is currently accepting applications for a seasonal, full time, Trail Use Surveyor. This position with MCC involves collecting user data, conducting surveys of trail users and networking with natural resource professionals. The project will include field data collection and analysis for a Department of Natural Resources user survey.
Responsibilities: Person in this position will work independently to collect user data for the Root River and Harmony-Preston Valley State Trails. The work schedule will be pre-determined rotating 8 hour shifts- including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Position requires extensive travel to various locations along portions of state trail being surveyed and will require overnight camping when necessary.
Qualifications: •Between the ages of 18 and 25. •Eligible for AmeriCorps Enrollment. •Ability to work and camp outdoors in adverse conditions. •Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays. •Ability to work independently. •Strong desire to learn new skills. •Positive attitude, sense of adventure and interest in service and community work. •Experience/education in natural resource management, service-learning, and/or related fields is desired. •Attention to detail.
Requirements: Must possess a valid Driver’s License, be able to perform essential functions of the job including working an irregular pre-determined schedule which may include weekends, holidays and evenings. A full term of service (450 hours) must be completed in order to receive the AmeriCorps education award.
Benefits: Living allowance of $1066-$1155 per month, student loan forbearance during the service term, and a post-service AmeriCorps education award of $1250 that may be used for college expenses or to repay qualified student loans (if eligible). Participation in trainings such as First Aid/CPR certification, defensive driving and others as applicable. Timeline: Application Deadline May 2, 2008.
