The San Francisco Community HealthCorps is an AmeriCorps Program that prepares members for a career in community health. Members receive extensive skills building and training such as basic medical assisting skills, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, pregnancy counseling training, and health education.
Community HealthCorps members serve 1700 hours over a ten and a half month period. Members receive a stipend of $12,000 for the entire term of service; medical, dental and vision care; loan deferment on qualifying student loans; and childcare if eligible. Members will also receive an educational award of $4725.00 after completing 1700 hours of service. Members are placed in health clinics and centers around San Francisco for the term of service. Members have duties that range from health education, medical assisting to health outreach. The clinics serve very diverse populations and wish to have members that are just as diverse. Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) and bi-cultural, minorities, women, people with disabilities, and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and community members are encouraged to apply.
