This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 30 months, but may be extended up to 5 years. Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees.
A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant?s successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
DUTIES:
This position is located in the Office of Medical Services (OMS) under the Associate Director of Volunteer Support. The OMS is responsible for Peace Corps pre-service medical clearance of applicants, in-service health care, and post-service health benefit programs. The Post-Service Unit is responsible for the planning, organizing, controlling, evaluation and coordination of health benefits for returned Volunteers. In addition, the Post-Service Unit processes workers? compensation claims for returned Volunteers with the Office of Workers? Compensation Programs, Department of Labor under the Federal Employees? Compensation Act. The Benefits Assistant advises claimants and providers of the claim process for post-service evaluations and workers? compensation under the Federal Employees? Compensation Act (FECA); assists in the preparation and case management of workers? compensation cases; assists in a variety of post-service health benefits activities and related administrative responsibilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
Knowledge of Office of Worker's Compensation (OWCP) Program policies, regulations, practices, and procedures.
Ability to interpret and apply a variety of guidelines and/or regulations.
Ability to analyze operational problems and develop solutions.
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifying experience for the FP-07 level includes one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the FP-08 or GS-6 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples are assisting in the development and/or implementation of clerical or administrative procedures for application within an organization; or selecting and arranging data and information from files and other resources for use by others in completing larger reports and projects.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: The experience requirements for the FP-07 level may be met by completion of one (1) year of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
