Molodets, Laura!
I'm so glad you've increased the personal exchange that started back in 1991 into such an organization- I was guiding the SCA high school exchange in Pereslavl-Zalessky and worked in DC when you did, too. You have really made an impact- and so did SCA's collaboration with the land management agencies in both countries!

Keep writing and interfacing with the US and with the environmental groups in Russia!

The world is truly an amazing place--witness your story.

I majored in Russian history and lit many years ago at Radcliffe (now Harvard) and feel a real connection to the land and its people. What you're doing (the zapovedniks) is wonderful. I edited a book about preserving Lake Baikal a few years ago, and I know that Russia needs all the help it can get (as we do in the US).

More power to you.

Blessings,

I am a Cornellian working for the US Forest Service and am inspired by your story

I enjoyed reading your life story and journey from the Cornell campus to a reserve in rural western Russia. I was an SCA volunteer on Yosemite National Park in 1990, graduated from Cornell with a degree in urban and regional studies in 1994, and am now a regional watershed planner with the US Forest Service's Northeastern Area (I work out of an office in NYC). One of my future dreams is to live overseas with my family and do work that inspires me - it sounds like you made that happen. Thanks for sharing your story. - Martina C. Barnes
