The positions are located in north-central Indiana, focusing primarily on TNC preserves in Marshall and Jasper counties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Stewardship Intern participates in preserve operations, maintenance and management. This may include one or more of the following functions: • Maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public • Removes exotic species • Maintains tools and equipment REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues • Ability to perform physical work, sometime under adverse conditions or in inclement weather - Chainsaw experience or certification recommended but not required. COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING: • Resolves issues with supervisor. DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING: • Consults supervisor on unusual or complex issues RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT – FINANCIAL AND SUPERVISORY: • Receives detailed instructions to complete required tasks • May work under close supervision or infrequent supervision COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: • Ability to interacts with preserve visitors and convey basic preserve information WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT: The Stewardship Intern may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. These conditions: • require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain • present frequent possibility of injury • require long hours in isolated settings* crew will need appropriate clothes and footwear for outdoor work.
