Policy & Research Internship - Fish Program (Washington DC)

Food & Water Watch, a nonprofit consumer organization based in Washington, D.C., that runs cutting-edge campaigns to help ensure clean water and safe food. We work with various community outreach groups around the world to create an economically and environmentally viable future. We advocate for safe, wholesome food produced in a humane and sustainable manner, and public rather than private control of water resources, including oceans, rivers and groundwater. Our Fish Program specifically works to promote clean, green, safe seafood for consumers, while helping to protect the environment and support coastal communities. As a research and policy intern with the fish team, you will be working directly with experienced researchers, organizers, policy experts and lobbyists to research emerging issues and create advocacy materials in support of grassroots campaigns and provide support for policy analysis regarding fisheries management issues. We focus particularly on stopping the privatization of our oceans and supporting coastal fishing communities. You will increase skills to translate complex information into written and online outreach materials and learn methods of investigative research, advocacy writing and strategic thinking.

We are currently seeking interns for September - December to work in our Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities may include:
* Track news and research relating to fisheries management, aquaculture and seafood consumption.
* Conduct background research on companies and organizations affiliated with the aquaculture, fisheries management and seafood industries.
* Disseminating information on our issues via blogging and other social media.
* For upper level interns (those with a college or graduate degree or seeking a masters) , possibility to research and produce full-length, glossy report.

Requirements
* Strong passion for and commitment to both social and environmental justice
* Strong writing skills
* Some prior research experience
* Graduate students sought for upper level internships, but undergrad students encouraged to apply, as well.
* Ability to commit 15 hours per week for 12 weeks in our office in Washington, DC
