Katrina Brink

Katrina is the Sustainable Agriculture Fellow for the Green Cities Corps. She recently moved to Pittsburgh from Missouri, and she loves being a part of the vibrant local food scene in western PA. The SCA came highly recommended to her, so she jumped at the chance to join a group of folks working to green this beautiful old city. She has a BA in French and minors in Environmental Studies and Agricultural Studies from Truman State University. She has worked as an apprentice at the Kansas City Community Farm and as an instructor at the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in New York. Now, she has immersed herself in anything that pertains to local food in Pittsburgh. She divides her time among Penn State Extension of Allegheny County, The Pittsburgh Garden Experiment and the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council.

There are so many reasons that Katrina cares deeply about agricutlure. The more she learns about it, the more she sees how the food system has major implications on social justice issues in the United States and globally. Working in this field also allows her to fulfill two of her other lifelong passions...eating and cooking! Katrina loves to be with people as they make discoveries through the simple joys of growing vegetables and cooking with ingredients they have grown themselves. These may seem like the most basic acts, but she thinks that they are foundational to how we relate to one another and how we learn to respect the earth.

In her spare time, you will find Katrina wandering through farmer’s markets, getting her hands in the dirt and getting the nerve to bike around the city to explore the parks and area trails!
