Development Association position with Born Free USA - Sacramento, CA / Washington, DC

Born Free USA, a dynamic animal protection and wildlife conservation nonprofit organization with offices in Sacramento, Washington, DC, and Toronto, is looking to fill the position of Development Associate. The position will be located in either the Sacramento, California or Washington, DC location.

Position Description:

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, the Development Associate will be part of a small development team responsible for researching, planning, preparing, organizing and executing all foundation and other grant proposals, donor relations, and fundraising appeals for Born Free USA. The following sets out the broad roles and responsibilities that the Development Associate could be required to undertake.

Responsibilities could include the following:
  • Research and assist in writing and preparing grant proposals to corporations, foundations, and government agencies;
  • Prepare high-quality proposals, grants, reports, mailings, and acknowledgements required to support ongoing fundraising activities
  • Manage grants and write grant reports to funders;
  • Develop and manage corporate partnerships;
  • Maintain strong relationships with high net worth donors;
  • Create and oversee the timely submission of reports and documents to public and private funders;
  • Create and administrate direct mail campaigns;
  • Produce and maintain internal development status reports;
  • Prepare mail acknowledgments, invoices and receipts;
  • Assist in planning and coordination of all special event functions and other fundraising appeals;
  • Compose correspondence;
  • Donor database management (maintenance, updates, imports)
Qualifications:
  • 3 to 5 years professional experience performing relevant grant writing and fundraising activities with strong knowledge of private and public sector funding opportunities;
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience;
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal skills;
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills and abilities;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Strong background or avid interest in animal welfare issues;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and priorities under deadlines and work under pressure;
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office systems and familiarity with databases;
  • Able to work across multiple time zones
