Internship with The Wilderness Society (DC)

The Wilderness Society’s Research Department in Washington, DC has an opening for an unpaid part-time or full time intern (20 to 37.5 hours per week) for three to six months.
The intern will be joining the research staff that consists of experts in economics, ecology and landscape analysis. This outstanding team provides the science to answer pressing questions about mineral exploration and development, forest and fire management, climate change, and many other issues affecting public lands.

The Wilderness Society was founded in 1935 to protect wilderness and to inspire Americans to care for our wild places.

Internship Duties:

• Conducting literature searches on the ecological impacts of motor vehicles, noise, roads, off-road vehicles, and energy development to use in comments to federal land management agencies and outreach to TWS members and elected officials;
• Working with a bibliography software ( i.e. EndNote) to collect and integrate reference data from various regional databases;
• Assisting with research, writing, or designing publications, reports, fact sheets, blogs, newsletters, etc.; and
• Creating a database of contact information to generate distribution lists of target audience for various research products.

Qualifications:

• Strong writing and research skills;
• Strong computer skills (previous working experience with EndNote, and Microsoft Access and Publisher preferred);
• Coursework in ecology, wildlife, natural resources policy preferred;
• At least two years of college credits; and
• A commitment to protecting the environment.

Work hours are flexible; however, we are looking for someone who can devote between 20 and 37.5 hours per week. The start date for this position is end of May or early June. This is an unpaid position but intern can receive academic credit with approval from the school.
