Project Information

Florida Trail History: Miami resident Jim Kern was tired of driving to Georgia to hike, but Florida in the 1960s had no trails to speak of. So in 1964 he set out to change that, and the Florida Trail was born. When completed, the trail will be 1400 continuous miles from South to Northwest Florida, built almost completely by volunteers. In 1983 the trail was granted National Scenic Trail status, an honor that only 11 trails hold.

The Project SCA and the Florida Trail Association will continue a decade-long relationship this winter. Our job is to organize and work with the many current and potential volunteers to maintain the existing trail.

Awkward? I don't see it.

Change in wording

The trail will run to northWEST Florida, not northEAST. :-)
