JOB SUMMARY
This Fall Internship is a full to part-time position that will start September 1, 2011 and run through May 2012 (or earlier if necessary).
This position supports the work of the Conference and Events Program Team and helps in the outreach for the four 2012 Good Jobs, Green Jobs Regional Conferences taking place in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Detroit from February to May of 2012. This position is ideal for someone wishing to gain experience in field organizing, regional and community outreach and overall administration and content programming. The position offers exposure to top environmental, labor and academic organizations, as well as industry leaders and government and political institutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
§ Assisting BGA’s Conference and Events Program Team in all aspects of planning and preparation for the 2012 Good Jobs, Green Jobs Regional Conferences
§ Supervising the outreach efforts of all four Regional Steering Committees and the National Steering Committee
§ Helping execute an outreach plan to ensure the participation of labor, environmental and community organizations; businesses and industries; federal, state and local agencies and others from states in each region
§ Tracking bi-weekly to weekly steering committee calls and ensure diverse regional participation
§ Assisting with overall administrative functions, as well as constructing tracking processes
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with or knowledge of the environmental and labor movements is a significant plus but is not necessary. Familiarity with office procedures and conference or event planning experience are also very helpful.
§ 1-2 years relevant experience preferred
§ College degree in relevant field or equivalent legislative/office experience
§ Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
§ Strong written and oral communications skills
§ Experience with Microsoft Office and use of Excel, Word and internet research capabilities
§ Very strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in action-oriented office
§ Willingness and ability to live in DC area
§ A deep commitment to the mission of the BlueGreen Alliance
Salary: This position in unpaid.
