National Public Lands Day is Looking for an Intern

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), a national leader in building public environmental literacy, is seeking a person to fulfill a part-time Intern position with the National Public Lands Day program in Washington, D.C. The internship would start immediately.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands that Americans enjoy.

In 2011, over 180,000 volunteers are expected to participate at 2,200 public land sites in all 50 states. This year's event is on September 24, 2011. Please go to www.publiclandsday.org for more information.

Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, an eye for detail and experience managing projects. The National Public Lands Day program offers the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about working with public agencies, the media and non-for-profit organizations. This position will be responsible for updating the NPLD website and database of more than 2,000 participating sites and managing mail and phone contact with participating sites.

The ideal candidate will have:

A background and interest in environmental science/education or currently pursuing a degree in a related field. Excellent research and written and verbal communication skills. A strong interest in nature and outdoor/environmental education. A working knowledge of public lands and the agencies that manage them. Familiarity with most major new media tools and direct experience as an active user on multiple outlets (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.). Good computer (Word, Excel, Internet) and research skills. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with our small program team. Good sense of humor.

This is an unpaid position and the work schedule can be 16-24 hours per week; hours are flexible within organization operating hours (9:00a – 5:00p).
